The Hoya Way to Planning Your Course Schedule

As we near the next course registration period, those of you picking your way through your core requirements may start wondering how best to strategize the next two or three years. For those considering minors or concentrations; for those planning on studying abroad; and for those figuring out if they can graduate ahead of schedule to start working earlier or to decrease tuition fees... THIS IS FOR YOU!

STEP 1: Log-in to MyAccess (the cursed site) and figure out what requirements you need to graduate

Under Student Services >> MyDegree >> Audit View, you will be able to see a comprehensive list of all the classes / requirements you have to take. These include your theology requirements, philosophy requirements, language requirements etc.... and will be different depending on what school within Georgetown you are enrolled in. If you're lucky (unlike me) to have completed AP or IB credits that fulfill any of these core requirements, you'll see those marked here. You'll also be able to see a list of courses that count towards certain requirements by clicking on the link provided.

If you don't know what you want to major or minor in yet and haven't declared, you can still see what your required major courses would be by toggling to the "What If" page and entering your preferences.

STEP 2: Transfer your required courses into this handy-dandy sheet and adjust dates accordingly

This sheet helps you to see an overview of what courses you'd like to take each semester, which requirements they help you fulfill, and how your credit/course load will look like. Start by making a copy of the file and filling in your university core requirements, school specific requirements, major requirements, and minor requirements in the bottom half of the sheet. You can also add in minors / concentrations that you are considering just to see how you might be able to fit them into your schedule.

As you make your way through your requirements, you can mark them as completed by using the "Fill" tool and greying them out.

STEP 3: Map it all out

Now it's just a matter of taking them time to map out how your courses will look like! Keep in mind that none of this is set in stone. This sheet is just meant to help you get a better look at what's ahead.

Good luck, folks! As always, share this with a friend you think it'll be helpful for, drop a comment, like, subscribe, or DM us on IG if you have any ideas that you'd like to see. KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON THROUGH MIDTERM SEASON!~~~~
