The Hoya Way to Getting Your College Textbooks (Without Going Broke)

Let's just start by saying, the bookstore probably isn't going to love this post so much. That being said, anyone who has been through a semester at college knows how much money goes into purchasing textbooks. HINT: it's a lot. Since we ain't about that, The Hoya Way has compiled a list of instructions for getting access to your textbooks (for free).

1. Find out what textbooks you need

First things first, you need to figure out exactly what texts are required for your courses. The easiest way to do this is by going to the Georgetown Barnes and Nobles website and getting your customized textbook list. Be sure to select each option from the drop-down menus.

2. Write down the title, author, and edition for each textbook that is listed on the website

Once you click "Find Course Materials for __ Courses"the website should take you to a page that lists all of your texts by course section. Write down the information for each text on a separate sheet of paper.

3. Here's the fun part :)

Go to the website libgen.is and enter each title into the search bar. Select the title of the correct edition / publisher.

In my case, the edition I'm looking for is the first one on this list. Once you click the title you should get to a page that looks like this:

Click on the link circled above and you should see this page:

Click "GET" and your download should begin automatically. Once you have the PDF or EPUB file downloaded, you can view it using the Preview App, your browser, or your iBooks library (just drag and drop the file onto the window).

4. Do this for each of your textbooks and you'll be set for the semester, shipping fee free!

Happy downloading! T-16 days 'til the first day of school :)
